What classes and grade level(s) do you teach?
Elementary Principal
What do you love most about HCS?
This is a difficult question because there are so many things that I love about HCS. I love the staff, the families, the kids, and the things I am able to teach. In addition, I feel that I am encouraged and supported by our administration. I come with two unique perspectives because I am not only a staff member, but also a parent. I feel that on both sides, the best part would be the relationships I have built with other staff members and families from our school. At the same time, my children value the relationships they developed with their teachers over the years in addition to the ones formed with their classmates.
Why do you like teaching at HCS?
I love teaching at HCS because I am passionate about being able to share Jesus with our kiddos throughout our day. I want the kids to know how much he loves them and to truly know what it means to have a personal relationship with Christ. I also just love to teach kids. I love the look on their faces when they learn something new and I love to challenge them to work harder than they thought was imaginable for them. Seeing them succeed through their perseverance is amazing.
What is one word that best describes the school? Tell us why you chose that word.
Community: from the staff, to the families, to the kids, and other relatives, HCS is truly a place of community where we do life together. We are here to encourage and support one another. This goes beyond the way the staff supports one another, our students, and our families. I love how our families support and encourage one another as well. I love to see the moms and dads who gather together in the mornings and afternoons. This is an extension and support of our classrooms when families are in community with one another.
How do you integrate faith and learning at HCS?
It is exciting to have the opportunity to integrate faith throughout the day and in various subjects. From the creation of our Solar System in science, the beautiful God given adaptations of animals, the traits and qualities of characters in our stories and novels, to the God given talents of each child in our classroom – I try to take every opportunity show the greatness of our God.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
I feel that I am just very real with my students and I like to share my life with them in ways that will positively affect the way they see and experience things. I vividly remember experiences I had as a child and I believe that so many of these have shaped and molded who I am as a teacher and how I try to teach my students. Being a mom of four kiddos, has also helped to shape the way I address student behaviors, learning struggles, strategies for teaching new concepts, etc. I always stop to think of how I would want my own child to be treated, spoken to, or helped to learn something that may be new or challenging.
What sets HCS students apart from other students?
I feel that HCS students are more compassionate and kind to one another and to the adults around them. I feel that they are building a firm foundation each year and that this continues to be built upon as they grow and develop at HCS. I believe our students feel that they have self worth and that they are loved and cared for.
