Admissions Questions

When should we apply?

Families are encouraged to apply early, as some grade levels may fill quickly and have waitlists. The admission season opens at the end of October each year, with prospective students applying for the following school year.

What does the admissions process involve?

The admissions process typically includes a campus visit, application submission, academic assessment, and enrollment decision.

Will my child need to take an assessment?

Yes. Enrollment assessments help HCS understand each student’s current academic level and readiness.

Are mid-year transfers possible?

HCS fills all classes no later than October 1st. We are not able to offer rolling or mid-year enrollment.

Can we visit the school before applying?

Yes. Families are encouraged to schedule a campus tour to experience HCS firsthand.

What grades does HCS serve?

Huntington Christian School serves students from kindergarten through Grade 8.

What is the student-to-teacher ratio?

Most classes maintain approximately a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio.

What subjects do students study?

Students study reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, Bible, grammar, and enrichment subjects such as music, art, STEM, and physical education.

Will my child be academically challenged?

HCS uses a comprehensive curriculum that runs about 6 months ahead of the classic public school curriculum.

How does HCS prepare students for high school?

Students develop strong academic habits, responsibility, and confidence throughout their years at HCS. Approximately 80% of graduates are placed into Honors or AP tracks at the high school of their choice.

Is the Bible taught at HCS?

Yes. Bible instruction is part of the daily curriculum across grade levels.

Do students attend chapel?

Yes. Students participate in weekly, age-appropriate chapel gatherings focused on worship and biblical teaching.

Is HCS affiliated with a denomination?

HCS is a ministry of First Christian Church of Huntington Beach which is a non-denominational, Christian church.

Is faith integrated into classroom learning?

Yes. Christian faith and worldview are integrated throughout classroom learning and school culture.

Do families need to attend a specific church?

No, church attendance is not required. Families are encouraged to learn more about the mission and beliefs of HCS during the admissions process.

Yes. HCS offers physical education and competitive middle school athletic opportunities.

Does HCS offer Before & After School Care?

Yes. HCS offers a phenomenal Before & After School Care program called Kids’ Overtime. This service is available from 7am - 6pm.
